TRUK LAGOON & YAP - MICRONESIA

JUNE 6 - 20, 2011

Dive with Odyssey Adventures to see the ghost fleet of Truk Lagoon, the world’s best shipwreck destination. We’ll also take you to the outer reefs to see a pristine underwater utopia where over 300 varieties of soft and hard corals flaunt their rainbow colors. You’ll see an abundance of incredible tropical fish, anemones, gorgonians, eagle rays & sharks.

Truk Lagoon was a major Japanese Navy anchorage prior to and during World War II. In 1944 a surprise air raid attack by the U.S. on the Japanese Imperial Navy’s Fourth Fleet left a graveyard of submarines, fuel tankers and cargo ships. Currently more than 100 vessels and aircraft  lie at the bottom of the Truk Lagoon and many ships are aground on the reefs.  The coral encrusted wrecks attract a diverse array of marina life, including manta-rays, sharks and turtles. Truk is now considered one of the best wreck diving in the world because of the numerous wrecks and their preservation and beauty.

Prior to our dives at Truk Lagoon, we will  be visiting Yap. Yap is famous for it's large population of Manta Rays. In addition to the attraction of manta rays congregating around the channels, you will see sharks and pelagics cruising up and down the reefs.
